Welcome to devDept

Who We Are
devDept is a software manufacturing company. The development team is composed of passionate programmers with backgrounds in: software development, mathematics and engineering. It was founded in 2006 in Bologna, Italy. Proudly located in Motor Valley, devDept neighbors some of the motor industry's most celebrated legends such as Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Dallara, Pagani and Ducati. Bologna was also home to Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of radio transmission, and not too far from Ivrea, the birthplace of the personal computer. devDept has a flat company structure, all programmers are involved in developing new features, testing, providing technical support and writing code samples.
What We Do
devDept is focused on development of CAD software components for the engineering industry, in particular for .NET. devDept was the first company on the market to write a CAD software component conforming to the Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) from scratch. After so many years, devDept is still fully committed to platform agnostic, bitness agnostic, 100% managed .NET code standards. devDept's small and effective company structure doesn't allow custom software development.
How We Do It
The devDept products roadmap is defined by customer needs. New product features are added for topics required by a significant amount of customers. Every new project is first discussed among programmers in terms of feasibility, limitations, testing and then implemented individually or collectively. Frequently, a long research/study on scientific literature is needed before starting. devDept software development practice is based on Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery. devDept strives always to work with the latest development, build, test, setup authoring and deployment tools. A detailed list of these tools can be found here.

How to generate a thumbnail for each assembly component
This article proposes a solution to a common problem in CAD applications: saving a bitmap for each leaf node in an assembly. The suggested method is based on Eyeshot's assembly navigation system, so it is recommended that you read the article Assembly Navigation first. Our Pulley Transmission article…

Shortcut menus (ContextMenuStrip/ContextMenu) and the 3D Mouse
A 3D mouse is an input device used by some CAD users. After a 3D mouse is detected for the first time, whenever the user right-clicks on an Eyeshot control with their (standard) mouse the normal shortcut menu is repopulated with navigation options specific for 3D mice. Please be aware that Eyeshot controls…

Custom Entity with EntityGraphicsData
Starting from Eyeshot 2023 the EntityGraphicsData class is abstract. This article explains the recommended approach for creating an instance of the concrete class in a custom Entity. For a complete sample, you can see the SelectTriangle source code. To create an instance you should override the Ent…

Limitations of AntiAliasing
Eyeshot offers the possibility to enable multisample anti-aliasing (MSAA), a technique that removes the artifacts known as jaggies from the raster image of a 3d scene. It can be activated like this: design1.AskForAntiAliasing = true; // in the Form/Window constructor design1.AntiAlisasing = true; This techn…
